Mary Deauclaire was diagnosed with breast cancer five years ago. She heard about Cancer Support Community well before this and knew right away to seek out CSC services after her diagnosis. The invaluable services and support she received made it an easy decision for Mary to include CSC in her will through a bequest.
Prior to her diagnosis, two of her friends had talked with her about how important CSC was to them during their cancer journey, but Mary had never been to our community. Since her first visit, we have become one of the most important components in her life; a community of authentic people who open up and allow others to know them. She appreciates everyone that makes CSC possible: those facilitating groups, directing programs – all the patients, caregivers, volunteers and staff.
Like everyone who walks through our doors after a cancer diagnosis, Mary had to make critical decisions regarding treatment options. What was particularly empowering about this process was learning through support groups what and how others were deciding for themselves. This was especially helpful when declining chemotherapy, a decision validated by her outcome and long term survival.
Mary has made a legacy gift because she wants to be sure as many people as possible receive the great services she’s had. If you’d like to consider leaving a legacy gift, please contact Amy Alanes, Director of Development, for more information at 925.933.0107, legacy@cancersupport.net.
