Sue Rainey Receiving Lifetime Achievement Award for Great Work in Local Community

sue rainey headshotOur CEO/President, James Bouquin has nominated former Walnut Creek Mayor Sue Rainey for the Lifetime Achievement Award from the East Bay Leadership Council.  Sue will receive this award at the upcoming East Bay Leadership Council’s 5th Annual Philanthropy Awards Breakfast.

Sue Rainey is incredibly deserving of the Lifetime Achievement Award for her work on behalf of Cancer Support Community (CSC). Sue has also achieved several lifetimes’ worth of contributions to the larger East Bay community!

Sue began volunteering with Cancer Support Community over 20 years ago, soon after the organization was founded in Walnut Creek.  She sat on several committees, joined the Board of Directors, and finally served as Board Chair.

When CSC grew to serve over 1,000 people each year, Sue chaired the capital campaign to purchase our current center.  Now that we are serving over 2,000 people facing cancer annually, Sue is co-chairing our current capital campaign to develop a new state-of-the-art cancer support center in the East Bay.

Among her many achievements on behalf of CSC over the years, Sue is proudest of initiating our counseling and education programs for children and teens who are coping with cancer, which now serve over 100 families each year.

In addition to her leadership for Cancer Support Community, Sue Rainey has provided an amazing amount of support for many community and civic organizations.   A partial listing of her remarkable roles and accomplishments includes:

Board Chair, The Wellness Community (Cancer Support Community)

As much or more than anyone we have known in the East Bay, Sue motivates others to give, commits time and energy without compensation, and provides talent for strategy, relationship enhancement and the successful solicitation of donations.

Sue is a true citizen of the community, and she embodies both the letter and spirit of the Lifetime Achievement Award.
