We are honored to welcome Jim Lewis to our Board of Directors. Jim recently retired from his role as Vice President of Government Affairs for Comcast Cable’s West Division. In this role, Jim oversaw all government, regulatory, and franchise relations for the West Division states of Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, New Mexico, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wisconsin.
Jim began his career as a trial attorney for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in Washington DC, and then moved to Massachusetts to serve as Assistant Attorney General & Chief of the Commonwealth’s Utilities Division, where he represented consumer interests in telecommunications and energy matters . With this foundation, he began a 20-year career at MCI, holding a number of senior leadership roles, culminating as Senior Vice President of Policy and Planning for MCI, where he developed and ensured the implementation in all jurisdictions of the company’s policy positions on telecommunications and Internet regulation. When Verizon acquired MCI in 2006, Jim stayed on as Vice President of State Public Policy. In this position, he was responsible for coordinating Verizon’s policy positions in the states.
Jim holds a bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Massachusetts and a Juris Doctor from the Boston College Law School. He and his wife Renee have two sons, John, an actor, and Michael, a college student. He has been active in community and charitable affairs, including serving on the Board of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Bay Area and educational nonprofit organizations. His experience and expertise will be a great asset in the continued growth of Cancer Support Community.
