The CMG Foundation has been a generous contributor to Cancer Support Community San Francisco Bay Area, and in 2018, the company’s founder and CEO, Chris George, pledged to match up to $150,000 in individual donations through CSC’s end-of-year appeal for donations. This is more than double the amount the foundation donated in 2017, and Chris and CSC hope that will inspire others to give, or to increase their annual gift.
Incredible philanthropy is nothing new to CMG, or to its founder Chris George. In 2017, the national mortgage banking firm headquartered in San Ramon gave over $1.4 million to charities both local and national. The company is committed to helping people get into and stay in homes, to supporting veterans, and to promoting healthy communities. The company’s major philanthropic efforts began with donations to the Gary Sinise Foundation’s R.I.S.E. program which provides housing to severely wounded veterans. The company has also given generously to the MBA Opens Doors Foundation, providing housing assistance to families with severely ill or disabled children. And it’s not just dollars the company gives; in 2017, employees collected supplies for and assembled 50 backpacks of school supplies for foster and transition aged youth through Alternative Family Services.
Many companies align their philanthropy with their business expertise; in CMG’s case, housing is a critical focus for the company nationally. In 2012, however, CMG’s philanthropy took a more personal turn after their Executive Vice President Kim Callas was diagnosed with cancer. Ms. Callas joined the CSC Board of Directors that year, and the company began supporting Ms. Callas’ involvement with major donations. The philanthropic partnership is a perfect fit for CMG’s motto of “every customer, every time, no exceptions, no excuses.” The company’s commitment to service and excellence for all their customers is similar to CSC’s mission to serve every person who comes to us affected by cancer and to help them become healthier, live longer, and live better.
CMG’s local philanthropy does not stop at Cancer Support Community. In addition to committing to double their matching grant in 2018, the company is also a top sponsor of Sunflower Hill’s annual “Moonlight in the Vines” fundraising event. Sunflower Hill is dedicated to providing housing and community to special-needs adults in Pleasanton and the surrounding areas. They also support the Sandra J. Wing Healing Therapies Foundation, which helps cancer patients with financial assistance during their treatment. CMG’s employees also volunteer on their own and for CMG’s annual gala, which raises money for the major causes they support.
Mr. George is an east bay native who grew up in Contra Costa County and graduated from Alhambra High School. He is not only the founder of CMG, but he’s the inspiration and the cultural leader of the company, and we at CSC are proud and grateful to have him as such an outspoken and generous leader in our community.
