The 14th Annual Cancer Support Community Gala will be held on Saturday, September 20th, at the Diablo Country Club. All proceeds benefit Cancer Support Community, providing counseling, education and support for cancer patients and their families.
Each year we host over 300 guests for this formal affair, coming together to celebrate our community. This year we are honoring two extraordinary individuals who are making an incredible impact in the lives of those facing cancer.

pirit of Hope Honoree: Steve Krognes, Genentech
Steve Krognes is passionate about developing therapies that improve the lives and longevity of people with cancer. He serves as Senior Vice President, Regional Head of Finance and IT and Chief Financial Officer of Pharma North America at Genentech, Inc. Prior to this role he served as global head of Mergers and Acquisitions and Head of Corporate Finance-Corporate Development of Roche Holding AG. Prior to joining Roche Holding AG, Steve worked as a venture capitalist in Scandinavia, as a mergers and acquisitions investment banker with Goldman Sachs and Danske Bank, and as a management consultant with McKinsey & Co. He also serves as a Director of California Healthcare, and is a second lieutenant in the Royal Norwegian Air Force. Steve is a graduate of the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, and holds an MBA from the Harvard Business School.
Spirit of Healing Honoree: Deborah Kerlin, MD, FACS, John Muir Health
Deborah Kerlin has spent the past several years dedicated to providing state of the art care for breast cancer patients in the Diablo Valley. Dr. Kerlin has worked at John Muir Health for 24 years, and has provided treatment for innumerable people facing cancer and other critical conditions in our community. The first decade of her practice was devoted to the Trauma Surgical Team, as well as chairing a number of committees, including Pharmacy and Therapeutics, Infectious Disease, Department of Surgery and Quality Improvement. Deborah is currently the Medical Director of John Muir Breast Health Services and she continues to practice general surgery. She completed her medical training and residency at the University of California, Davis, and is a Board Certified General Surgeon and a Fellow, American College of Surgeons.
