Emergency Financial Assistance


Program Information

Cancer Support Community San Francisco Bay Area is pleased to announce our Emergency Financial Assistance (EFA) Program application is open to support individuals affected by cancer facing financial hardship. This program is designed to provide aid to eligible patients who need help with various needs, such as:

  • Co-Payments
  • Medical Supplies
  • Prescription Costs (out of pocket)
  • Nutrition support (groceries, medically recommended nutrition, meal delivery)
  • Housing Stability (rent, utilities, temporary lodging)
  • Supplies related to diagnosis (wigs, prosthetics)
  • Transportation to and from cancer-related medical appointments (gas, rideshare, public transit, parking)
  • Lodging
  • Housekeeping

Current grant opportunity will fund up to $1,000/patient.

A social worker, doctor, or other medical provider must fill out the application on behalf of the patient.

To qualify, the applicant must:

  • Reside in Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, or San Mateo
  • Have a low income as defined by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) standards (income level for 1 (one) person of $87,550 or less in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties, or $117,700 or less in San Francisco, San Mateo, and Marin Counties)
  • Must have a current diagnosis of cancer; all cancer types are eligible. Individuals receiving ongoing treatment or long-term maintenance therapy are eligible.
  • Experiencing financial hardship related to their cancer diagnosis, treatment, or recovery.
