Cancer Support Community San Francisco Bay Area Selected as “Operation Cancer Care” Program Recipient

Nonprofit receives nearly 100 care packages to donate to local patients in need

Today, Cancer Support Community San Francisco Bay Area (CSC), a Bay Area-based nonprofit devoted to supporting individuals, families, and communities affected by cancer through no-cost comprehensive care and support, announced they will be donating nearly 100 care packages to local cancer patients. The care packages were generously donated by GRAIL, a leading health care company dedicated to the early detection of cancer, as part of their initiative, “Operation Cancer Care.”

“We are excited to collaborate with GRAIL to donate care packages that will support cancer patients. These care packages not only help with treatment related symptoms but also send a powerful message of support to people undergoing cancer treatment” said Rob Tufel, MSW, MPH, Chief Executive Officer, CSC. “We are deeply grateful to GRAIL for demonstrating in action their commitment to addressing the supportive needs of cancer patients.  ”

In 2024 it is projected that just under 5,500 people will be diagnosed with cancer every day and by 2050, this number is anticipated to increase by 49%. CSC recognizes that the impact of a cancer diagnosis extends far beyond medical treatment. A staggering three out of every four cancer survivors experience symptoms of psychological distress as well as financial strain, which impacts health outcomes and quality of life. While local medical centers are working to meet the medical needs of the growing number of patients and family members, CSC is preparing to expand their support outside of the hospital setting by building a new state-of-the-art supportive cancer center.

The partnership between Cancer Support Community San Francisco Bay Area and GRAIL exemplifies the strength that emerges when organizations unite to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those impacted by cancer. It is a testament to the shared commitment to providing comprehensive care and support beyond the medical aspect of cancer.
