Legacy Gift Stories

Janet K. Legacy DonorThe First Thing

Janet, Member, Shannon McGowan Legacy Society

The first thing I did after my second cancer diagnosis was to call the Cancer Support Community. From my earlier experience, I knew the most comforting thing a cancer patient can do is talk with another cancer patient. I’ve included CSC in my will as I want others to experience the educational and supportive services I did. This is one way for an ordinary person to make an extraordinary contribution.

Cancer Affects So Much More Than Your Body

Karl, Member, Shannon McGowan Legacy Society

When I learned my prostate cancer had metastasized I was devastated, scared and thought I was going to die. A friend told me about the caring people and comprehensive services at CSC. Cancer affects so much more than your body. It affects relationships, self-image, your sense of hope for the future. This was especially true for me. CSC services including support groups, individual counseling, access to education and tools enabled me to focus on living with cancer rather than dying from it. My legacy gift is a token of appreciation for the help in getting my life back.
